Engineering design
Produces CAD models and drawings based on function, materials, tolerances and manufacturing. Records interfaces and assumptions so the design can be reviewed and used in the next stage.

A design engineer develops ideas and requirements into drawings, models and technical solutions. The role works with matters such as materials, tolerances, calculations and manufacturing methods, closely with project management, quality and production. We match design expertise to the technical field, tools and requirements, from early concepts to support during manufacturing and operation.

Produces CAD models and drawings based on function, materials, tolerances and manufacturing. Records interfaces and assumptions so the design can be reviewed and used in the next stage.
Performs strength, safety and performance calculations and simulations. Contributes to building and testing prototypes to examine design function and remaining technical questions.
Produces specifications, manuals and other technical documents. Describes design decisions and limitations, working with the norms, standards and safety requirements applicable to the assignment.
Coordinates design matters with project management, engineering, quality and production. Provides drawings, analysis and technical input from concept work through preparations for production.
Reviews existing designs and recommends improvements to function, safety and lifespan. Adapts solutions for manufacturing, assembly and maintenance around product needs and assignment priorities.
Uses CAD and PLM systems for models, drawings, product structures and changes. Keeps versions and decisions organised so procurement, production and service can use the right product information.
Considers environmental requirements and material and resource use in design work. Reviews the solution against agreed quality requirements and the organisational and technical rules applicable to the product.
Adapts drawings and technical solutions for manufacturing, assembly and installation. Supports troubleshooting and improvements during use, drawing on feedback from production and operations.
