Project Management

A system implementation often involves several teams, suppliers and business functions. ACME helps you find project managers who coordinate planning, budgets, risks and decisions. We also match programme managers and change leaders to larger initiatives. The assignment may be a new project, an implementation already under way or an initiative that needs to regain momentum.

HOW AN ASSIGNMENT COULD WORK

A system rollout with several dependencies

Situation
An organisation is implementing a system while everyday work continues. Development, integrations, training and suppliers follow different plans. The sponsor lacks a shared schedule and cannot see which issues are blocking the next decision.
The consultant’s contribution
A project manager can bring dependencies, risks and decisions into one plan and coordinate business readiness. Changes are assessed with the relevant owners, showing the sponsor their effect on time, scope and quality.
Potential value
The sponsor can gain better control of implementation and the issues to resolve before handover.

Three questions before your assignment

  • Which operational objective should the rollout support?
  • Which dependencies shape the next important decision?
  • Who will receive and manage the delivery?
IN DEPTH / PROJECT MANAGEMENT

How a consultant
can help.

01

Goals, authority and decisions

The sponsor, project manager and steering group need to agree on objectives, scope and decision-making authority. The project manager records these in the assignment brief and tracks the effect of changes on time, cost and quality.

02

Planning across team boundaries

Development, integration, procurement and security reviews rarely follow the same schedule. The project manager coordinates dependencies, resources and suppliers, monitors costs and raises issues with proposed actions. Reporting should help the sponsor make decisions.

03

Working methods that fit uncertainty

Some work suits iterative development; other parts call for fixed decision points or a coordinated release. An experienced project manager adapts the approach to the assignment and connects priorities, feedback and reporting.

04

Change that works in practice

Users need to be ready to adopt the solution. Change work covers affected groups, communication, training and support during the transition. The project also needs to establish who accepts the delivery and follows up adoption after implementation.

THE WORK IN PRACTICE

Examples of work
and deliverables.

We agree the scope and deliverables with you.

01

A shared starting point

An assignment brief covering objectives, scope, decision-making authority and stakeholders. It also records the project’s assumptions and how benefits will be assessed.

02

Governance that supports delivery

A plan for dependencies, risks and decisions, supported by cost tracking and reporting that highlights the choices the sponsor needs to make.

03

A prepared implementation

Plans for communication, training and handover, with agreement on what must be ready before launch and what support is needed afterwards.

BEFORE YOUR NEXT STEP

Common questions
about this area.

Do we need a project manager or a product owner?

A project manager coordinates a defined delivery and its dependencies. A product owner prioritises the product's development and value over time. A large implementation may need both. Start by identifying the missing responsibility and the decisions the role must be able to make.

Do we have to choose a particular framework?

Start with uncertainty, dependencies and your organisation's working practices. Agree the decisions, deliverables and feedback points required. A consultant can work within your established model or help adapt it, with a shared understanding of accountability and priorities.

Can you help when a project is already in difficulty?

An assignment can begin by mapping the current situation, decisions, dependencies and remaining work. The client and consultant can then develop practical options. The aim is clear decision support and a feasible path forward based on the actual circumstances.
