IT EXPERTISE

Software Development

ACME helps you find developers for new features, integrations and legacy modernisation. We match frontend, backend, full-stack, mobile and embedded expertise to your codebase and ways of working. You can add a specialist or bring several skills together. Testing, code review and knowledge transfer form part of the discussion about scope.

Two developers work on code and review it together.

HOW AN ASSIGNMENT COULD WORK

A connected order flow across systems

Situation
An order workflow spans a customer-service application, an ERP system and a delivery platform. Manual entry duplicates work, but the systems use different data models. The team wants to automate the flow without interrupting day-to-day work.
The consultant’s contribution
A developer can define an initial workflow with the team and build integrations with tests for normal operation and failures. Versioning, retries and traceability reflect system responsibilities before the change is tested in stages.
Potential value
The workflow can reduce manual entry and make errors between systems easier to investigate.

Three questions before your assignment

  • Which task creates the most duplicate work?
  • Which systems own the information in the flow?
  • How should errors be detected and handled?
IN DEPTH / SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

How a consultant
can help.

01

Development grounded in real workflows

The developer turns priorities into features that can be built, tested and evaluated. Acceptance criteria and early feedback from product owners and users guide the next step. Technical choices take account of architecture, load and existing code.

02

Code that others can maintain

Readable code, tests and reviews help more people contribute to the same solution. The assignment may cover new features or improvements to technical debt, dependencies and documentation. Priorities reflect the issues that most affect development and maintenance.

03

Integrations and shared information flows

Integrations depend on agreed data definitions, APIs, versions and error handling. The consultant works with areas such as event flows, retries and traceability. Data ownership and outage handling matter when several systems and suppliers share a workflow.

04

A controlled path to production

Automated builds and tests give the team rapid feedback. The route to production also covers approvals, deployment ownership and recovery. Continuous delivery makes a release possible when needed; the timing follows business needs and service risks.

THE WORK IN PRACTICE

Examples of work
and deliverables.

We agree the scope and deliverables with you.

01

A workable development starting point

A review of the codebase and dependencies, plus a prioritised backlog. The team gets a plan for the first delivery and agreed completion criteria.

02

Software with supporting evidence

Features and integrations with agreed tests and documentation. The delivery identifies completed work and known limitations.

03

A foundation for future maintainers

Documentation of build, deployment, troubleshooting and recovery, together with knowledge transfer to the people who will develop and maintain the solution.

BEFORE YOUR NEXT STEP

Common questions
about this area.

Which development expertise do we need?

Start with the part of the solution that must change, the existing technology and the team's responsibilities. Frontend, backend, mobile and embedded work require different experience. Describe integration, testing and deployment too, so the match covers the whole task.

Should we replace the old system entirely?

That depends on the changes required, dependencies and risk. A review can identify what can improve incrementally and what most limits the business. Consider migration, parallel operation, knowledge needs and ongoing maintenance alongside the development cost.

How can we assess delivery quality?

Use agreed functionality and quality requirements, then examine tests, code clarity, error handling and operational behaviour. Useful follow-up makes known risks and outstanding work visible, allowing technically completed work to be judged in its business context.
