IT EXPERTISE

Cloud services
& Technology.

A cloud migration raises questions about system dependencies, costs and who will operate the solution afterwards. ACME helps you find cloud architects, platform engineers and migration specialists. We match consultants to new environments and improvements to existing solutions, taking account of security, budgets and your organisation’s ability to manage the technology.

HOW AN ASSIGNMENT COULD WORK

A phased move with clear responsibilities

Situation
An organisation wants to move a business-critical application to the cloud. Integrations, variable demand and access requirements affect the choice. The sponsor wants to understand costs and who will operate the solution after transition.
The consultant’s contribution
A cloud architect or platform engineer can map dependencies and propose an initial step. Identity, environment structure and cost monitoring are planned alongside automation, testing, data migration and rollback.
Potential value
The organisation can test its cloud choice on a smaller scale and assess operational responsibilities and costs before proceeding.

Three questions before your assignment

  • Which dependencies must work during the transition?
  • Who owns access and configuration?
  • How will costs and recovery be reviewed?
IN DEPTH / CLOUD SERVICES & TECHNOLOGY

How a consultant
can help.

01

Service choices and shared responsibility

The choice of infrastructure, platform or software services affects how much you manage yourselves. The consultant compares options against information, integration and availability requirements. Customer responsibilities for use, permissions and configuration are distinguished from the provider’s commitments.

02

Migration in manageable steps

Start with application dependencies and decide what to move, adapt or replace. Data transfer, testing, parallel operation and rollback are planned together. An initial limited step provides experience before more systems are moved.

03

Platforms that can be maintained

Identity, access and environment structure need to work across teams. Version-controlled configuration and automation make environments easier to recreate. Logs and alerts are linked to services and owners so operations teams can troubleshoot and make changes.

04

Cost, capacity and recovery

Track costs by service or team and compare them with usage. Review sizing, storage and operating hours alongside recovery and data-loss requirements. Redundancy and multiple cloud providers can offer benefits while adding complexity and management work.

THE WORK IN PRACTICE

Examples of work
and deliverables.

We agree the scope and deliverables with you.

01

An agreed cloud target approach

A recommendation on service choices, responsibilities and priorities, with cost assumptions and the questions that need testing.

02

A feasible migration plan

A phased plan for testing, data migration and rollback. Responsibilities, approvals and the receiving operations team are identified before transition.

03

Follow-up of the chosen solution

Practices for cost, capacity, access and recovery. Documentation and knowledge transfer help the team operate and improve the environment.

BEFORE YOUR NEXT STEP

Common questions
about this area.

Is the cloud always the best option?

The choice depends on system needs, information management, dependencies and economics. A review can identify suitable candidates and components needing another approach. Compare migration effort, skills and long-term maintenance as well as the initial cost estimate.

What remains our responsibility when a provider operates the service?

That depends on the service model and agreement. The customer still makes decisions about use, information and access. Clarify configuration, follow-up, incidents and recovery so that responsibilities do not fall between your organisation and the cloud provider.

Do we need more than one cloud provider?

Different needs may justify several providers, but they also add skills requirements, integration and operational complexity. Start with the outcome and dependencies you want to manage. Consider whether the benefits justify the additional work involved.
